Transfer 12 Week 5 April 29, 2013

It was a pretty calm week with a couple of things that I think that only missionaries would find funny, for example:
-The Hermanas were on exchanges so we had visiting with us Hermana Hill, I had Elder Hill givethe opening praying and Hermana Hill give the closing prayer and i put them in the same practice group.

I got to interview someone for their baptism.  The guy was studying to be a catholic priest but he didn't like how his questions were never answered.  But he was SUPER prepared.  He told about me about how he misunderstood the word of wisdom so they thru out all the stuff against it and then they bought tons of green tea so when the missionaries came by they told them they had to throw that away too, and so they did.

We had two new investigators at church this week! I was so excited!  They LOVED it.  They were Gladys and and Donaldo.

Well I need to get going!!!!

Love,

Transfer 12 Week 4, April 22, 2013

Last Monday night I went on exchanges with Elder Hill.  Last time I went on exchanges with him we got stuck behind a gate and had to jump a fence in our suits.  Fortunately for us we had no such incident.  Our day started out with some basketball with the other elders at the Interstake center.  Then at lunch time Elder Hill made some pasta with some funky sauce which we then added jabenero sauce to, it tasted pretty good.  However whatever we came up with did not agree with our stomachs. we felt sick for the rest of the day.  Elder Hill is one of the Zone Leaders, so I got to accompany him in one of his duties.  We went to a different district's district meeting, I stole some good ideas from that meeting.  But Sister Cooper from Queen Creek was there!  Then we rushed to help a sister in the ward move some furniture out of her house.  Then she gave us some leftover "mole" which did not help our stomachs.  Right before we exchanged back we talked to a guy that use to be an investigator about 10 years ago.  We testified to him of the importance of prayer.  We invited him to meet with us but he turned us down.  But elder Hill reinvited him and he thought about it for a sec and decided that he would.
Tuesday we were going to do a street dispaly as a district at the BART station but The Zone Leaders had to attend to some responsibilities and The Hermanas got  sick so it was just Elder Watkins and I.  We didn't have too much success talking to people there.  But then as we walked back to the car we met someone named Milagro and she talked to us about her family and invited us to come over to her house to talk with her family.  So we met with her last night at the end of the night like at 8:30.  We had had such a long Sunday full of meetings so we were ready to go home and finish the day.  When we called her it seemed like things might possibly  not work out but we talked things out and we were able to still  come by.  They live in the same apartment complex as some recent converts in the ward and know another family that attends our ward. The spanish word "milagro" means "miracle" for all you gringos.

We met with Alberto and his children this week and invited them to be baptized.  They said they would if their dad baptized them.  So now we are trying to help Alberto recieve the priesthood.

Last night we set a baptismal date with Donaldo.  He is from Guatamala.  We are not quite sure that he understand what that means but he seemed excited about it.

Saturday we had a Mormon Helping Hands service project. we pulled tons of weeds! I loved it!  I got to jump in the dumpster and smash all the weeds!

Sincerely!

Transfer 12 Week 3 April 15, 2013

Alejandro finally got baptized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We have been teaching him since September and so happy he finally got to make the covenant!  Elder Watkins had to do the ordinance 3 times because the first time he didn't say "amen"  the second time his elbow came out of the water and the third time was a charm!  The less active grandmother and nonmember father were both in attendance!
Wednesday we had a Zone Meeting and learned about repentance.  Ever since then I have been super bold in my contacts and lessons.  I have no idea where its coming from! WE set a new baptismal date with another part member family.  The step son accepted the invitation and the mother (non-member) agreed!

Saturday our ward had an activity in celebration of "Día del Niño" (Children's day).  There was so much CANDY, I ate way to much! There was piñatas and all sorts of games!  And we were able to get some investigators to the event and they loved it!  Then when it came time to eat there was these delicious tostadas  but the kids didn't want those so they got some pizza  and when the pizza arrived all the little kids ran in, yelling "PIZZA! PIZZA! PIZZA!"

We had interviews with our President Meredith this week. I was able to learn so much from just a couple of minutes with him.

Thats all for this week!

Sincerely,
Élder Luis González

Transfer 12 Week 2 April 9, 2013

I feel it is a miracle that the Prophet of the Lord can communicate to the WHOLE world at the same time.  What a spiritual feast conference was!!!!!
I feel so luck and blessed to be able to watch conference in such close proximity to the temple!!!

This week Elder Watkins and I decided that we would invite everyone we talked to listen to General Conference.  Our first day of doing that was going pretty good until we knocked on a door and found some less active Jehovah Witnesses.  But that wasn't the problem, nor was the problem the fact that they were 14 and 10.  The problem was that almost as instantaneously as they opened the door, I heard a familiar voice, a voice i listened to very often  a voice that i would listen to for hours a day.  On the TV was Taylor Swift singing "Mean."  That was the HARDEST contact of my whole mission!!!!

We (my district) met with Obispo this weekend to talk about how to get the missionary work moving in the ward.  Bishop Torres is so AWESOME, he gave us so many ideas of things we need to do to get things moving.

We ate dinner with the Cruz family. The son was watching the Arcadia track meet!!!! We talked about track!  It was so weird!

We were able to get 7 investigators to General Conference!  Hopefully the eternal investigator family we got to conference felt the spirit tell them that President Monson is the Lord's prophet!

"Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea."

Transfer 12 Week 1 April 1, 2013

¡FELIZ PASCUA!

(Which for  you gringos means Happy Easter.)

We had hard time this because of all the things people were doing to celebrate Easter Week.  People were not at all interested in listening to us even as we offered them an Easter Message.  But we were able to find a nice family who the Hermanas had found street contacting at the BART station.  They are super busy so we won´t meet with them soon, hopefully they don´t lose interest.

This week we had dinner with Los Preciado and Elder Watkins was reminded of his birthday dinner with them. He ate cueritos which is pickled pork skin.  He confused them with onions.....

We got a referral from the visitor`s center this week that is super solid.  She reminded me of myself with the questions she was asking and the comments she made.

Our Easter was pretty calm.  We had correlation meeting at 11 at the VC and then we went and taught a lesson before church at 2pm.  At church we had combined Priesthood/Relief Society Meeting and got an awesome lesson from Bishop.  Then in Gospel Principles we learned about the Atonement.  Then in Sacrament I was asked to translate for the English speakers in the congregation.  After church we had dinner at Bishop's house and we ate so much as always!

Well that is my week!

Sincerely,
